A Polish court has freed two Russian football fans jailed for their part in Euro 2012 riots, but left a third in prison.
At least 162 Poles and 25 Russians were arrested after Polish hooligans attacked several thousand Russian supporters marching to celebrate a national holiday before the two sides played out a 1-1 draw on June 12.
Only three Russian fans, who received up to three-month jail terms following the clashes, had remained in custody.
A Warsaw appeals court on Tuesday overturned a two-month and a three-month sentence respectively for 28-year-old Pavel Lepikhov and 19-year-old Dmitry Abramov.
Their sanctions were downgraded to suspended sentences.
“Considering the defendant’s age, the court replaces three-month sentence with a suspended one and a five-year probation period,” Judge Piotr Schab said about Abramov’s case.
Now they are able to leave Poland and will be deported from the country in the next few days. After all procedures are observed, they will be taken to the Belarus border by car.
The third convict, Viktor Eremin, 29, had his two-month sentence kept in force.
He was accused of throwing flares into Polish supporters and police, as well as and scratching the face of the policeman who was trying to detain him.
