A 24-year-old surfer died on Saturday in a shark attack near Wedge Island in Western Australia, local media reported.
The attack was the fifth fatal incident involving sharks in the state in ten months, the West Australian newspaper said.
A witness told Sky News the shark was a four to five meter long Great White. Other witnesses said the man was less than 50 meters from the shore when taken, but others said he was about 200 meter away on an isolated beach and about 4 km south of Wedge Island, which is 160 km north of the city of Perth.
The authorities said they have placed baited lines in the area to try and catch and kill the shark.
