The Moscow Raceway saw its first Russian winner in only its second race Saturday, as Daniil Kvyat prevailed in a drawn-out battle with Belgium's Stoffel Vandoorne in the Renault World Series' 2.0 class.
The win cuts Vandoorne's lead over Kvyat at the top of the championship table to seven points ahead of the second race Sunday.
Kvyat took the lead from pole position-sitter Vandoorne at the first corner and retained his lead as the race was disrupted by the safety car after several incidents in the middle of the pack.
Britain's Oliver Rowland took third place to complete a double of thirds for British drivers after Sam Bird took the same result in the 3.5 class earlier Saturday.
Kvyat's teammate Stefan Wackerbauer was fourth, with Finland's Mikko Pakari fifth and Melville McKee the second British driver home in sixth.
Alex Riberas was seventh, with fellow Spaniard Esteban Ocon eighth, as Guilherme Silva and William Vermont rounded out the top ten.
In the day's earlier 3.5 race, Robin Frijns of the Netherlands became the first man to win on the Moscow Raceway, edging Jules bianchi into second place.
