France’s Arthur Pic took victory in the premier 3.5 class of the Renault World Series on Sunday.
In the 2.0 class, Russia’s Daniil Kvyat grabbed his second victory of the opening race weekend at the new Moscow Raceway.
Pic, the younger brother of Formula One driver Charles, took the 3.5 win ahead of second-placed Walter Grubmuller of Austria, with Estonia’s Kevin Korjus coming third as the pre-race favorites struggled.
Pic’s win was his first of the season and lifts him to sixth in the championship, which is still held by Dutchman Robin Frijns despite him recording his worst finish of the season in 17th.
Frijns’ closest rival remains Britain’s Sam Bird, who crashed out on the first lap, taking out Cesar Ramos, Marco Sorensen and Anton Nebylitskiy and bringing out the safety car.
Pole position holder Jules Bianchi made a series of mistakes on his way to a seventh-place finish and remains third in the championship.
In the 2.0 class, Kvyat completed the double on the new track for his sixth win of the season and took the championship lead from Stoffel Vandoorne, who finished second and now trails Kvyat by one point in the standings.
British driver Oliver Rowland ensured the podium remained the same as in Saturday’s race as he took third.
