The town hall of Louvain-la-Neuve, located 30 km southeast of Brussels, has laid out a big sand beach at the central square of the town to brighten up leisure time of citizens, local media reported on Sunday.
The town authorities brought nearly 400 tons of sand and made a 1,200 square meter 'sandbox' despite rainy weather in the town famous for its university. Visitors of such man-made beach could rest sitting in lounge chairs on the terraces of the cafes or simply lying on the sand, the media said.
The town hall is trying to brighten up leisure time for residents who decided to spend vacation at home by such unusual way. The authorities plan to carry out various kinds of entertainment and beach sports for townspeople of all ages till August 5.
