A force of 104 Russian volunteers aged between 18 and 70 have departed to join the London 2012 Olympic volunteers, the head of the organizing committee for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics said Friday.
With Russia hosting the next winter Games, the volunteers going to London will work alongside their British counterparts and be expected to bring back expertise to improve the volunteer system in Sochi.
“I don’t doubt that our volunteers will represent Russia with honor at the Games in London and will bring not just unique experience but real Olympic drive to the Games in Sochi,” Dmitry Chernyshenko, head of the Sochi 2014 organizing committee, said on the committee’s website.
The Russians will attend the media headquarters, transport and event organization.
The London Olympics run from July 27 through August 12.
