Court on Saturday arrested four of the six men suspected of attempting to murder the Mufti of Tatarstan in Kazan and shooting his former deputy, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported from the courtroom.
The Mufti, Ildus Faizov, on Thursday suffered a leg injury in a car bomb blast. Earlier that day, Valiulla Yakupov, a high-ranking member of the spiritual directorate of the republic and head of its education department, was shot dead at his home.
The first four suspects were detained on Thursday. One more suspect was detained on Friday. The sixth suspect – Marat Kudakayev was detained on Saturday.
On Sunday, court ordered that four of the detainees – Murat Galeyev, Marat Kudakayev and two others be put in pretrial detention until September 20, 2012.
One of the was freed on Sunday.
