Spartak Moscow has reached an agreement with Boca Juniors to sign Argentinian international center-back Juan Manuel Insaurralde, the club said Monday.

The move will strengthen a Spartak defense that was widely criticised in the Russian media last season.

"This week the last nuances of the transfer of the 27 year-old player, who has played two matches for Argentina, should be settled," Spartak said in a website statement.

"In the case of passing a medical examination Insaurralde will sign a contract with Spartak."

Insaurralde switched to Boca from Newell's Old Boys in 2010, winning the 2011 Argentine title with the club and scoring six times in 79 appearances.

Insaurralde made his debut for the national team in a September 2009 friendly against Ghana under Diego Maradona's tenure as coach.
