China's 16-year-old sensation Ye Shiwen crushed the field in the women's 200 meter individual medley for her second London gold on Tuesday.

Ye was third on the final turn after average backstroke and breaststroke legs, but shot home in the freestyle to win in 2 minutes, 8.57 seconds, an Olympic record.

"I couldn't lose the race," Ye said. "I didn't expect the others to swim so fast. I was surprised."

America's Alison Coutts grabbed the silver in 2:08.15, with her compatriot Caitlin Leverenz third on 2:08.95.

"My coach told me, 'Go out there and have fun, you have no pressure on your back you have a gold and a bronze medal already,'" Coutts said, referring to her part in the 4x100m freestyle and personally in the 100m butterfly.

"I can't take the smile off my face. My cheeks hurt."

It was Ye's second gold of these breakthrough Olympics.

She powered down the final length to win Olympic gold in the women's 400 meter individual medley Saturday and take a second off the world record.

Olympic organizers were forced earlier Tuesday to deny allegations made by American team officials it was too fast to be clean.

"It's ok, it didn't affect me," Ye said of the claims.

"My coach told me, 'Go out there and have fun, you have no pressure on your back you have a gold and a bronze medal already.'
