South Korea took a second fencing gold on Friday as its men's sabre team thrashed Romania in the final.

The Koreans, seeded eighth, were outscored in only one of nine contests to coast to a 45-26 victory.

Korean fencer Gu Bongil who won two of his three face-offs, said a Korean gold was of no surprise to the team.

"We had faith in ourselves. We had been focused on the individuals but didn't win so we focused on the team," he said.

"I feel very proud - it's a good way to promote fencing in Korea."

Romania, the fourth seed, won its first fencing medal of the Games with silver, its seventh medal overall.

"I am very pleased with my performance," said Romania's Rares Dumitrescu. "Fourth place in the individual competition and now a silver medal."

South Korea downed Italy 45-37 and Germany 45-38 en route to the gold, their second in the sport.

Kim Jiyeon triumphed in the individual sabre on Wednesday, beating Russia's Sofya Velikaya.

Earlier in the day, Italy beat Russia 45-40 in the bronze medal match, a repeat of the 2008 third-place encounter.
