Servet Tazegul of Turkey won Olympic taekwondo gold in the men's 68kg weight class on Thursday.
Tazegul, the world No. 1 and 2008 bronze medalist, narrowly beat Mohammad Bagheri of Iran 6-5 on points.
"I have worked for this since 2008 when I got the bronze medal. I reached my goal," Tazegul said.
"This medal is in memory of my mother. I lost her not long ago."
Earlier, Terrence Jennings of the United States and Afghanistan's Rohullah Nikpai won bronze medals.
