Carlo Molfetta of Italy took Olympic gold in a tight heavyweight taekwondo final on Saturday.

Molfetta was adjudged to have beaten Gabon's Anthony Obame despite both fighters racking up nine points over three rounds and overtime.

Obame's silver in a first Olympic medal of any kind for the Central African nation.

Earlier in the day, Robelis Despaigne of Cuba and China's Liu Xiaobo claimed bronze when they lost their respective semifinals.
