Lithuania’s Laura Asadauskaite won the last gold medal of the London Olympics with victory in the women’s modern pentathlon on Sunday.

Asadauskaite, the reigning European champion, set an Olympic record score of 5,408 as she won the event, designed to test 19th century military skills such as riding, running and pistol shooting.

Silver went to Britain’s Samantha Murray on 5,356, continuing Britain’s tradition of a medal at every Olympics since the women’s modern pentathlon was introduced in Sydney in 2000.

The bronze medalist was Yane Marques, who gave Brazil its first-ever modern pentathlon medal.
