Russian Olympic Team Returns to Moscow from London

The Russian Olympic team returned to Moscow from London. A plane with the Russian Olympic delegation landed at Moscow Sheremetyevo airport late on Monday.

Russian athletes took the 4th overall place by the medal count, winning 24 gold, 26 silver and 32 bronze medals.

Relatives, friends and fans welcomed the athletes at the Terminal D of Sheremetyevo-1 airport.

“We are grateful to our athletes! The Olympics were a bumpy ride in the beginning but we were getting better and better and the finish was spectacular. The last three days were dominated by Russia,” President of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov told reporters at the airport.

Hundreds of fans welcomed Russian athletes with flowers and banners at the airport.

“The training was hard, but the actual performance was a piece of cake,” Russia’s Olympic champion 800-meter runner Maria Savinova said adding that she enjoyed the atmosphere at the Olympics in London.

Alexander Zhukov shared his impressions about the victory of the Russian volleyball team. “That game was so emotional! There are games in the Olympics history that are remembered forever. We will soon forget about the number of medals we won, but the performance of our volleyball players will be remembered by fans for the rest of their lives,” Zhuikov told reporters upon the arrival.
