Russia’s Vera Zvonareva has withdrawn from the U.S. Open, organizers said Tuesday.

Russia’s Vera Zvonareva has withdrawn from the U.S. Open, organizers said Tuesday.

A statement on the tournament website did not say why Zvonareva, a former world No. 2 who reached the finals of Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in 2010, had withdrawn.

She also missed the Rogers Cup in Montreal earlier this month.

Sixteenth-ranked Zvonareva’s decision to pull out means that the women’s field is now missing three players in the top 20, with 15th-ranked Kaia Kanepi and world No. 18 Flavia Pennetta also out.

Svetlana Kuznetsova, who won the U.S. Open in 2004 and the French Open five years later, pulled out Monday and said Tuesday she would spend the time for “recovery”.

The men’s draw will be missing world No. 3 Rafael Nadal, as well as France’s Gael Monfils, Spain’s Juan Carlos Ferrero and Argentinian player Juan Ignacio Chela.
