Federal drug control agents have seized more than 200 kilograms of heroin in the Moscow region with an estimated street value of about $2 million, agency regional chief Maj. Gen. Vasily Yurchenko said on Thursday.
Three men, all Tajik nationals, were detained with 97 plastic bottles each with 1.25 kg of the drug and two 0.7-kg bottles, he said.
The bottles were thrown from a moving train on the Dushanbe-Moscow line.
“It is the largest drug haul seized in Russia in the past two or three years,” Yurchenko said, adding that the heroin would have been diluted to produce about 10 million doses.
The drug dealers are facing up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office said on Thursday another three men will go on trial for attempting to sell about 200 kilograms of hashish last year.
They are also looking at up to 20 years in prison if found guilty.
