A spiritual leader of Dagestan Muslims, Sheikh Said Afandi, and five other people were killed in a blast carried out by a female suicide bomber in the Dagestan settlement of Chirkey, a spokesman for the regional Investigation Committee said on Tuesday.
“Five followers were killed in the blast. We confirm that the sheikh also passed away,” the spokesman said.
The female terrorist was disguised as a believer, local police said. “According to preliminary information, the woman was disguised as a believer and approached the sheikh and set off an explosive device attached to her belt,” a police press release said.
