New KHL team Donbass Donetsk has signed ex-Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Oskars Bartulis, the team said Tuesday.
Bartulis, 25, played in 66 games for the Philadelphia Flyers from 2009 to 2011, scoring one goal and recording eight assists.
The Flyers lost 4-2 in the 2010 Stanley Cup finals to the Chicago Blackhawks, with Bartulis featuring in four games of the series.
Last season he played for the Flyers’ AHL affiliate of the Flyers, the Adirondack Phantoms, racking up 11 points, before the Flyers placed him on unconditional waivers.
He has been a member of the Latvia national team since 2003.
Donbass is the first Ukrainian team in the KHL and will face off against another newcomer, Slovan Bratislava of Slovakia, in its first match September 6.
