Dagestan has declared August 29 as the day of mourning after a sheikh and six of his religious followers were killed in a terrorist attack, a spokesman for the republic’s president said.
A spiritual leader of Dagestan Muslims, Sheikh Said Afandi, and six other people were killed in a blast carried out by a female suicide bomber in the Dagestan settlement of Chirkey.
“Expressing his grief and condolences to friends and relatives of the victims, Dagestan President Magomedsalam Magomedov issued a decree announcing August 29 as the day of mourning in the republic,” the spokesman said.
The female bomber was disguised as a believer. She approached the sheikh in his house and set off an explosive device attached to her belt.
