The fairy tale house, or terem, of blacksmith Sergei Kirillov in Kunara, a village in the Sverdlovsk Region (Urals), is a popular spot.

Kirillov spent his entire life building the house.

The emblem of the Soviet Union, crosses, church domes, horse riders, fiancés with their brides, children, pigeons, kittens, hundreds of wrought flowers and thousands smart decorative elements make the house unique in Russia.

The house looks like a toy, as if it belongs in a fairy tale.

Twice fires raged nearby, burning neighboring houses to the ground, left the terem intact.

In 1999, Sergei Kirillov’s house was selected as the best in the All-Russian Amateur Wooden Architecture Contest.

Sergei Kirillov died a few years ago. Now his wife, Lidia, lives in the house. Antique lovers and museums have made some big money offers for the house, but she refuses to sell.

Lidia has plenty of help with the upkeep of the house from people who appreciate the work of her husband, the master, who spent his entire life creating the terem.
