Russia’s capital Moscow will mark its 865th anniversary on Saturday and Sunday.
During City Day celebrations, Muscovites and city guests will be able to take part in over 600 festive events, including cooking and handicraft festivals, as well as watch fireworks at various sites across the city.
The key festive sites during City Day will be downtown Red Square and the Poklonnaya Hill in western Moscow.
The Russian capital’s territory recently nearly doubled when Moscow incorporated some areas to the southwest of its former boundaries, so residents of the new territories will also celebrate City Day.
Sergei Kapkov, the head of Moscow’s culture department, said both Muscovites and city guests will “like very much” the festive events, which, he pledged, will be "very interesting.”
