A gang of some 14 smugglers attacked two Russian border guards and made off with their weapons, the Interior Ministry’s spokesman said on Tuesday.
The border guards were attacked on Monday night in the woods of the Belgorod Region near the Russian-Ukrainian border.
“The attackers fled, some to Russia and others to Ukraine,” the spokesman said.
One of the smugglers was detained, and investigators later found the stolen Makarov pistols.
