Tomas Berdych beat Argentina’s Carlos Berlocq in straight sets to secure a place in the Davis Cup final for Czech Republic and set up a repeat of their 2009 final match with Spain.
World No.6 Berdych gave the Czechs an insurmountable 3-1 lead in the tie when he completed a 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 victory over world No. 45 Berlocq on clay in Buenos Aires.
Earlier, the Czech Republic took the lead Saturday with a doubles victory as Berdych and Radek Stepanek defeated Berlocq and Eduardo Schwank.
Friday saw Argentina’s No. 1 Juan Martin del Potro crush Stepanek and Berdych defeat Juan Monaco in a five-set thriller.
Seeking its second Davis Cup title, the Czech Republic will face reigning champion Spain, which downed the United States of America 3-1 in their semifinal Sunday.
The last time the two countries met was in the 2009 final, when Spain thrashed the Czechs 5-0 at home on clay.
The final will be held in the Czech Republic from November 16 through 18.
