Aftermath of Typhoon Sanba in Vladivostok

Tropical typhoon Sanba, the most powerful to hit Primorye Territory in 20 years, began moving away from Vladivostok during the second half of the day on Tuesday and pushed toward the north of the territory.

Rescue services were put on high alert in readiness for the arrival of Typhoon Sanba in Primorye Territory.

By the evening on September 17 the wind in Vladivostok had picked up to 40 miles per hour, gusting to 56 mph.

The typhoon brought a month’s worth of rain to Primorye Territory in 24 hours. The heaviest rain fell in the Lazovsky, Olginsky and Dalnegorsky districts.

In Vladivostok around a dozen streets were flooded, city authorities said.

On Sunday just off Dobrovolsky Street, which was built for the APEC Summit, there was a landslide, which resulted in a displacement of rocks. The authorities say law enforcement agencies, public utilities and rescue services continue to operate on high alert.
