Spartak Moscow proved themselves capable of competing with Barcelona in their 3-2 defeat at the Nou Camp on Wednesday but must not get carried away, defender Marek Suchy said.
Spartak's only previous home game against Barcelona saw the Russians battle to a 2-2 draw in 1994.
"They're on another level," Suchy said when asked about the likelihood of a win in the return fixture, adding: "Today we saw that we can play against them."
After the spirited showing, in which Spartak led 2-1 with 20 minutes remaining before Lionel Messi scored a brace to steal it for Barca, the Russians must not get overconfident ahead of the return fixture, the Czech defender said.
"You can't have your head in the clouds after this game. It could be a completely different game," he said.
Coach Unai Emery had told the team this after the final whistle, Suchy said.
"He came in and said it's nothing awful, you played the game well. In your heads you now have to get ready for your next home game."
The return game will be played November 20. Spartak next face Celtic at home October 2, when Barcelona travel to Benfica.
