Far more Russians today believe in heaven and hell than two decades ago, according to an opinion poll conducted by the Levada Center.
A total of 53 percent of Russians believe in heaven, at least to a certain extent, which is a 24-percent increase on 1991.
Forty-nine percent of Russians believe in hell - 25 percent more than 21 years ago.
A total of 19 percent more of those polled said they believe in religious miracles (52 percent in 2012 and 33 percent in 1991).
Fifty-nine percent said they believed in bad luck spells - two percent less than in 2010.
The poll was conducted on August 10-13, 2012 among 1,601 adults aged 18 and older in 130 localities of 45 Russian regions. The statistical margin of error does not exceed 3.4 percent.
