The pairings for the playoffs in Russia’s Professional Rugby League were decided Sunday, with each semifinal pitting together a team from Siberia with one from near the capital.
The top four places that decide the playoff seedings are already set in stone, with reigning champions Yenisei-STM assured of coming out on top in the regular season even though it will not finish until October 2.
Siberian side Yenisei will face Moscow team Slava in one of the two-legged semifinals, while the other tie pits seven-time champions VVA Podmoskovye against Krasny Yar, another team from Yenisei’s home city of Krasnoyarsk.
The regular season result that decided the top four came Sunday when Krasny Yar beat VVA 19-9 in the latter’s home of Monino.
The Russian title has been decided by a playoff series since 2006.
