One person was killed and two injured on Sunday when shooting broke out in a dispute at a clothing market in the southern city of Krasnodar, the regional investigative committee reported on Monday.
The man who was killed was “an official advisor to the head of one of the national communities of Russia’s south and a 40-year old who was injured man is his son,” investigators said in a statement. Local police sources said the victims were gypsies.
“There was a conflict between the head of the community and one of the most influential families of the same nationality,” investigators said.
Eight members of “an opposing family” including women “came to the clothing market on Sunday armed with shotguns,” investigators said. “As a result of the conflict, initiated by the women, the men of the family started shooting. One person was killed and two were injured.”
The suspects fled the scene. They could face life imprisonment if convicted of murder.
