Urszula Radwanska put in a dominant performance to dispatch former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone in the first round of the Kremlin Cup on Monday.
Radwanska, the world No. 30, beat 34th-ranked Schiavone 6-3, 6-1, helped by strong nerves on break points, of which she saved six of seven.
Poland's Radwanska now faces Denmark's Polish-speaking third seed Caroline Wozniacki in the second round.
Schiavone reached the final of the Kremlin Cup in 2005 before losing to Mary Pierce, and the loss to Radwanska was the first time in 10 appearances that she had exited in the first round in Moscow.
