The latest viral debate buzz was spreading across the Internet well before the second US presidential debate had ended Tuesday night, this time focused on the “binders full of women” comment made by Republican candidate Mitt Romney during the live broadcast.
“I went to a number of women's groups and said, ‘Can you help us find folks,’ and they brought us whole binders full of women,” Romney said in response to a question about inequality for women in the workforce.
And with that, he unwittingly handed the social media world enough fodder to go viral. As a US presidential candidate, you can’t expect to make a comment about having had “binders full of women” and think that it will go unnoticed.
Within minutes, the accidentally funny comment was racing through the social media world. The account @Romneys_Binder now has more than 14,000 followers, and the Facebook page Binders Full of Women has more than 3,000 followers and 267,000 “likes.”
Even Big Bird – who squawked his way to Internet stardom in the first Obama-Romney debate – got in on the action.
