Third seed Caroline Wozniacki defeated world No. 30 Urszula Radwanska of Poland in the second round of the Kremlin Cup on Wednesday.
The 22 year old broke all of the Radwanska’s service games in the first set, before finishing off her opponent with her fifth match point in the second for a 6-1, 6-3 win.
"I’m just happy to be here, the atmosphere was nice at the court and court was very good today," said Woziacki.
The former world No. 1 Wozniacki is looking to add to her only title this year won in Seoul in September and will face reigning champion Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia in the quarterfinals.
"I played her in New Heaven this year and I played well," Woziacki said. "She won the tournament here last year so, of course, it’s not going to be easy, she likes the courts, she likes to play here, so we have to wait and see what happens."
Cibulkova also had a straight-forward time against Bulgaria’s world No. 44 Tsvetana Pironkova, winning 6-2, 6-3. after saving five of seven break points against her.
Elsewhere, Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson scored the biggest upset of the Kremlin Cup so far with a 6-3, 6-0 demolition of second seed Marion Bartoli.
Earlier, Klara Zakopalova ousted eighth seed and Czech compatriot Lucie Safarova 6-4, 6-4, and Russia's Valeria Solovieva won a battle of two qualifiers against Ukraine's Elina Svitolina, prevailing 6-4, 6-2 to set up a second-round match with fourth seed Ana Ivanovic.
