Marin Cilic has become the first seeded player to fall at the €2.4 million Paris Masters, suffering a straight-sets defeat to Jerzy Janowitz of Poland on Tuesday.

Janowitz gave Cilic no break points on his way to a 7-6(6), 6-2 defeat of the 13th-ranked Croatian.

In the third round, Janowitz, ranked 69 in the world, will face either world No. 3 Andy Murray or French wild card Paul-Henry Mathieu, who eliminated Spanish qualifier Roberto Bautista-Agut 6-4, 7-5.

Elsewhere, qualifier Grigor Dimitrov ousted world No. 30 Jurgen Meltzer of Austria.

The big-serving Bulgarian racked up 16 aces and 33 winners to secure a 7-6(2), 6-2 win.

World No. 55 Dimitrov will play ninth seed Juan Monaco in the second round.

Meanwhile, France’s Jeremy Chardy, ranked 34 in the world, gained a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Spanish qualifier Guillermo Garcia-Lopez to book an encounter with 14th seed Milos Raonic in round two.

The Paris Masters is the last chance for players to book the remaining two slots at the eight-man Tour Finals, which will be held in London on November 5-12.
