A child choreographer from Russia’s Siberian Republic of Yakutia, is suspected of embezzling his students’ money in a gay club, a local prosecutor’s office press service said on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old choreographer of a village child dance class collected money from his 19 students to organize a trip to an international dance festival in France. After getting over 1.1 million rubles ($35,000) from the children's parents, the choreographer went to Yakutsk to submit French visa applications and buy tickets.
“He spent the money for his own purposes - renting three apartments in Yakutsk, going shopping and visiting the Sputnik gay nightclub. In all, he managed to embezzle 335,000 rubles [$10,700],” prosecutors said.
When arrested, the suspect denied his guilt, saying the bank card was stolen. However, he was caught on an ATM camera while withdrawing cash.
The man was charged with fraud, misappropriation and embezzlement and faces up to five years in prison if found guilty.
