MOSCOW, November 3 (R-Sport) - The McLarens of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button topped the time charts in final practice for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Saturday, ahead of championship leader Sebastian Vettel.
Hamilton went fastest with a lap of 1 minute 42.160 seconds after earlier casting doubt on his ability to take pole position in qualifying later Saturday.
Button was 0.290 seconds off Hamilton’s pace, with Vettel 0.196 seconds further back.
All of the leading drivers posted slower times than in Friday’s second session, where Vettel was fastest and which is likely to prove a better guide to ultimate qualifying pace.
Vettel’s closest challenger in the championship standings, Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, failed to show any extra pace and was eighth-fastest with a time of 1:43.133.
The Mercedes cars were far off the pace, with Nico Rosberg 13th and Michael Schumacher 14th.
Further back, Vitaly Petrov’s fastest lap of 1:46.261 was more than a second slower than the Russian’s best time from Friday and good enough only for 22nd.
