MOSCOW, November 3 (R-Sport) – U.S. shooting guard Dionte Christmas has signed a one-year deal with CSKA Moscow, the Euroleague runner-up said Saturday.
Christmas, 26, has already passed a medical in a Moscow clinic and joins the team immediately.
“We followed Dionte during the summer and he was one of our top options during the offseason signing campaign,” CSKA coach Ettore Messina said on the team’s website.
“I think he is a player with a lot of energy and good skills offensively. He will surely strengthen our backcourt.”
“He is coming off the excellent school in Temple and we are confident that he will be a good addition to our team.”
During the preseason, Christmas played for the Boston Celtics in both the Orlando Summer League and the Las Vegas Summer League and took part in the Celtics training camp, but was released by the team after averaging 3.3 points and 1.8 rebounds in four preseason games.
Last season, Christmas played for Rethymno and became the scoring leader of the Greek league with 18.2 points per game, shooting 56 percent two-pointers and 37 percent on three-pointers.
Before joining Rethymno the 26-year-old played at Hapoel Afula in Israel, Turkish team Mersin, Nymburk of the Czech Republic and Greece’s PAOK.
CSKA Moscow is flying in the current Euroleague campaign with a 4-0 record in Group D ahead of a game against group leader Barcelona in Moscow next week.
