MOSCOW, November 3 (RIA Novosti) - Russia’s futsal team opened their World Cup campaign with a 16-0 mauling of the Solomon Islands on Saturday.
Naturalized Brazilian Eder Lima scored seven of Russia’s goals in the group stage match at the tournament in Thailand, with the other 11 shared between seven players.
Despite the crushing scoreline, the result was less dominant than at the 2008 World Cup, when Russia smashed 31 goals past the Soloman Islands.
Russia next face Guatemala on Tuesday, while the Solomon Islanders aim to salvage some pride against Colombia, the other team in Group F, on the same day.
Guatemala beat Colombia 5-2 earlier Saturday.
