MOSCOW, November 3 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow prosecutors have begun an investigation into the opposition Left Front party over possible extremism, its leader Sergei Udaltsov said on his Twitter blog on Saturday.
"I got a notice in the post. The prosecutor wants to see me on November 6 at 2 p.m. for an explanation, and to bring with me financial and foundation charter documents for Left Front, although we don't conduct financial activity and aren't registered with the Justice Ministry. I intend to go, we've got nothing to hide," he told Gazeta.ru by phone.
He said it was unclear why the probe had been initiated, adding he expected other members could get similar orders to answer questions.
"They summoned me as a member of the organizing committee of Left Front, of which there are others," he said.
Udaltsov said the probe could be a first step by the authorities toward declaring the party an extremist organization.
