Finland beat Russia 2-1 on penalty shots in the opening stage of the Euro Hockey Tour in Finland on Wednesday.

MOSCOW, November 7 (R-Sport) Finland beat Russia 2-1 on penalty shots in the opening stage of the Euro Hockey Tour in Finland on Wednesday.

Columbus Blue Jackets center Artem Anisimov, playing for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl during the lockout, opened the scoring in the first period only for Dynamo Minsk forward Teemu Laine to level the score in the third.

After goalless overtime, the match went to penalty shots and Nashville Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne kept out the Russian effort while his counterpart Konstantin Barulin let in two penalty shots, with Petteri Nummelin scoring the winner.

Elsewhere in the Tour, the Czech Republic beat Sweden 3-1, with all the goals scored in the third period.

Finland faces the Czechs on Friday, while Sweden plays Russia on the same day.
