KHABAROVSK, November 10 (RIA Novosti) - An Airbus A340 passenger jet on a flight from Paris to the Pacific island territory of New Caledonia made an emergency landing at the airport in the Far Eastern Russian city of Khabarovsk on Saturday due to a problem with one of the plane’s four engines, a source in Russia’s uniformed services told RIA Novosti.

“The A340 landed safely at 1:10 p.m. local time,” the source said.

None of the 242 passengers or 14 crew members aboard the wide-body jet were injured in the incident.

The pilots decided to make an emergency landing after receiving a signal of a fire in one of the engines.

Airport officials on the ground in Khabarovsk activated a 54-strong emergency response crew to assist with evacuating passengers and fighting any fires, but the plane landed without incident.
