MOSCOW, November 10 (RIA Novosti) – In a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, an 18-year-old woman in Sverdlovsk Region who happened to witness a car theft wound up being fatally stabbed by the thief, the Investigative Committee said on its website on Saturday.
The woman’s body was found early on Friday morning. She had been stabbed 20 times.
The murder suspect is a 22-year-old man who stole the car late on Thursday night during a drinking binge.
The woman witnessed the theft and, unfortunately for her, the thief did not get very far, immediately losing control of the vehicle and driving it into a culvert.
Realizing that the woman had seen everything and fearing she might go to the police, he decided to kill her, the statement alleges.
“The suspect caught up with the young woman as she was walking away from the scene and fell upon her with the knife,” the statement said.
The man, who was taken into custody a few hours after the woman's body was discovered, faces up to 15 years in prison on the charge of murder.
