MOSCOW, November 10 (R-Sport) - Ghanaian forward Majeed Waris has joined Spartak Moscow from Swedish side Hacken, the Russian club said Saturday.
The 21-year-old, who had been linked to Everton and Chelsea, has signed a “long-term” deal, Spartak said without providing further details.
“Spartak are a big club with big prospects,” Waris said on the team’s website, adding that Spartak's 2-1 Champions League defeat to Celtic had inspired him to sign.
“The team caught my interest after I watched the game against Celtic. I liked the team, it seemed that I can develop and express myself here.”
Waris was the Swedish top flight's top scorer 23 goals in 29 matches last season as Hacken secured their highest-ever finish with second place.
Waris, who has four caps for Ghana, joins fellow ex-Hacken player Kim Kallstrom at Spartak.
Spartak are bottom in Group G of the Champions League group stage, with three defeats from four games and two fixtures remaining, and are sixth in the Russian league.
