MOSCOW, November 11 (R-Sport) - A stoppage-time scissor kick from Alexander Kerzhakov gave Zenit St. Petersburg a hard fought 2-1 victory at minnows FC Volga in the Russian Premier League on Sunday.
Kerzhakov pounced on a poor headed clearance to volley the winner past his brother Mikhail in the Volga goal, just seconds after the match restarted following a Volga equalizer.
Zenit rise to second in the league, leapfrogging Anzhi Makhachkala, who drew 1-1 with Lokomotiv Moscow earlier in the day, and are now three points behind leaders CSKA Moscow.
Volga stay 14th, one place and one point above the relegation zone.
Zenit took the lead on 31 minutes when right-back Alexander Anyukov scored his first goal of the season with a fierce shot from 20 yards.
Volga seemed to have scavenged a point when ex-Zenit player Ilya Maximov equalized with a powerful 20-yarder of his own in the last minute of normal time, only for Kerzhakov to score the winner soon after.
