MOSCOW, November 12 (RIA Novosti) - Russian police have uncovered one of the largest US dollar counterfeit gangs operating in the country in recent years, the Interior Ministry said on Monday.
"During a search at a property in the Republic of Dagestan, investigators uncovered printing equipment and false dollar bills worth $400,000" the police said.
The gang was initially discovered in July this year in Dagestan, when three men were arrested in possession of fake currency worth over 3.5 million rubles ($112,000). Another suspect was later arrested in Dagestan in November, and a search of his property revealed printing equipment, two plates for printing $100 bills, printing inks and watermarked paper, the police said.
"There was also equipment for making Bank of Russia banknotes with a nominal value of 1,000 rubles," the police added.
The authorities are continuing their search for other suspects in the case.
