MOSCOW, November 12 (RIA Novosti) - Indian President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday launched the advanced version of low cost tablet Aakash that costs around $20, The Economic Times reported.

Aakash 2, to be made available first to students of engineering colleges and universities, is powered by a 1 GHz processor, has 512MB memory, a 7 inch touch screen and a battery working for three hours of normal operations.

The device is manufactured by Datawind.

"The government subsidizes it by 50 percent and it will be distributed to students at Rs 1,130," Datawind CEO Suneet Tuli said.

He said the government is also trying to encourage the state governments to chip in by subsidizing it further so that the device can eventually be available to students free of cost, The Economic Times said.
