Servicemen participating in military exercises at Alabino near Moscow tested the new Ratnik personal combat gear and equipment.

The test is to decide whether the new gear will equip the armed forces.

The new combat gear and equipment is intended for the ground forces.

The gear includes up to 40 elements to facilitate combat missions.

The elements include weapons, protective gear, and communications equipment.

The standard set comprising a camouflage smock and body armor weighs about 10 kilograms; together with a helmet and more protective assault vest with armor plates for shoulders and hips, the total weight is 20 kg.

The new combat garment is made of Alutex aramid fiber.

The smock can withstand shrapnel from hand-grenades, mines and artillery rounds as well as, for a while, flame.

The set includes a multilayer helmet and an armor vest with ceramic armor plates capable of stopping AK-74 and sniper rifle rounds.

The Ratnik gear was first presented at the MAKS-2011 air show.
