WASHINGTON, November 29 (RIA Novosti) – Two lucky ticket holders beat the odds to win the second largest lottery jackpot in United States history, worth more than $587 million in the drawing held Wednesday night.
One of the winning tickets was purchased at a Trex Mart store in Dearbord, Missouri, near Kansas City, Missouri Lottery official Susan Goedde told ABC News, but the winner has yet to come forward. The ticket holders have 180 days to claim the prize.
The second ticket was sold in Arizona. Lottery officials there told local media early Thursday they had no information on the winner, but planned to announce later in the day where the ticket was sold.
The two winning tickets will split the jackpot, each getting more than $293 million.
An additional 8,924,123 players won smaller prizes, according to Powerball's website.
"There were 58 winners of $1 million and there were eight winners of $2 million. So a total of $74 million," said Chuck Strutt, Director of the Multi-State Lottery Association.
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot were 1 in 175 million.
The winning numbers were: 05 - 16 - 22 - 23 - 29 and Powerball 06.
