MOSCOW, December 2 (R-Sport) – Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin hit three goals to take his lockout team Dynamo Moscow past Donbass Donetsk 4-2 on the road.
The victory allowed Dynamo to extend its lead at the top of the Western Conference while KHL newcomer Donbass remains outside the playoff zone in 10th.
Ovechkin scored twice in the first period, with Toronto Maple Leafs center Leo Komarov recording two assists.
Finnish defenseman Janne Jalasvaara made the score 3-0 shortly before the first break, but the hosts managed to pull two goals back in 25 minutes via Tuomas Kiiskinen and former Florida Panthers wing Evgenii Dadonov.
Ovechkin added an empty-net goal in the last minute of the encounter to take his tally for the season to 12 from 22 KHL appearances.
Dynamo goaltender Alexander Sharychenkov blocked 31 out of 33 shots in the fourth KHL game of his career.
