“Visits to Indian ports have become a tradition as India is a friendly power. This is yet further evidence of close ties between the two countries,” task force commander Rear Admiral Vladimir Vdovenko said.
The Pacific Fleet’s Marshal Shaposhnikov, an Udaloy class destroyer, was laid down at the Yantar Shipyard in 1983. The ship was commissioned in December 1985.
The task force’s commanding officers are planning to pay a visit to India’s Western Naval Command HQ to discuss the details of these forthcoming exercises.
The Indian-Russian naval drills will focus on joint anti-piracy missions, as pirates are particularly active in the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea, close to the Indian coast.
Russian sailors return to the ship after a shore leave in Mumbai.
