MEXICO, December 10 (RIA Novosti) - At least six people were killed and over 40 injured after a passenger bus crashed plunging into a 30 meters (almost 100 feet) deep ravine in the southwest of Guatemala, local media reported.
Four people, including two teenagers, died at the scene of the accident, while two more died later in a hospital. Many of the injured remain hospitalized in a critical condition.
Police say the accident could be caused by driver’s violation of a speed limit, failure in the braking system of the vehicle or because the bus was overloaded.
According to witnesses, as the bus was descending a mountainous road the driver pushed on the brakes, but only a strange sound followed and the bus swerved of the road into a ravine without slowing down.
