Norway's overall leader Tora Berger took the gold in the mass start at the third Biathlon World Cup stage in Slovenia on Sunday.

MOSCOW, December 16 (R-Sport) – Norway's overall leader Tora Berger took the gold in the mass start at the third Biathlon World Cup stage in Slovenia on Sunday.

It was a fourth win in eight races this season for the 31-year-old, who extends her lead to 83 points over Gabriela Soukalova of the Czech Republic.

Berger overcame think fog in Pokljuka to boast the sharpest eye on the shooting range, missing only twice to leave Germany’s Miriam Gossner, who came second, 35.5 seconds behind.

Soukalova, 23, also missed twice to finish third and cap a fantastic week for her, climbing to three podiums and taking her maiden World Cup win in Friday's sprint.

On Saturday, Gossner also grabbed her first World Cup gold medal in pursuit and jumped to third in the overall standings, 102 points adrift of the leader.

Two-time Olympic champion Olga Zaitseva of Russia was second after the third shooting stop, but missed once at the last range and was overtaken by her younger rivals.

The fourth stage of the World Cup will take place in Oberhof, Germany on January 3-6.
